Let's talk textures

So, I'll admit, I'm a texture fiend and I know I'm not alone.

My question is this - what is your preferred size?  I'm in the process of making some to share and I've made them landscape 8 x 10.  I find it a good size as you can make them smaller and you can stretch them out to fit a 12 x 12 page, without too much distortion when you blend them with papers.

Also, do have any favourite texture sites/blogs/flickr etc?  I found a new one yesterday - http://shadowhousecreations.blogspot.com/Shadowhouse Creations - he also dabbles in photography, manips and brushes.  There is another one I go to, but I keep forgetting to book mark it, so I can't remember the name.

ETA:  I've remembered the other place I visit - http://lostandtaken.com/Lost and Taken.

Love textures and Shadowhouse always has some wonderful ones.
Also JoesSistah at Flickr has some amazing stuff!

I always scrap in 12 x 12 but i think with textures any size works as enlarging or making smaller a texture really doesn't distort it much.  Thanks for the new link!!!!

I've started uploading my textures to http://www.flickr.com/photos/33171597@N00/sets/72157624257240135/Flickr, but as I don't have a pro account, they are considerably downsized :(

Let me know what you think, if you want to that is.

OMG I am just staring my obsession with textures. I just bought a set from http://paintthemoon.net/blog/fine-art-textures-for-photographers/Paint the Moon  and then I found a mess of stock ones for free.

Textures are something that I didn't have much interest in UNTIL  I started noticing the fantastic effects they give photos.  Then I haven't stopped collecting and hunting high and low.  THANK YOU for starting this thread!!

I haven't done as much with textures as I think I should....they add such interest and depth to a page.  I like 12x12 even though most of my stuff is 8x8.  Its easier to shrink than grow.  Thanks for sharing the link

Karen, your textures are so lush!!! Thank you so much for sharing. I love the idea and now that Annie has taught us newbies how to use them, its time to actually try them out!

Thanks to everyone who liked the textures.  Like I mentioned before, if you want them original size, 3000 x 2400, which is 8 x 10, let me know and I'll zip them up and upload somewhere.

I love making and using textures.

A MINIMUM size for textures seems to be 1000 pixels on one side. I tend to make mine 1500x1500 at the moment.

One of my favorite groups for textures is Textures For Layers at Flickr:
http://www.flickr.com/groups/textures4layers/

Rubyblossom makes great backgrounds and textures:

I see someone has already mentioned Skeletal Mess and Joe's Sistah from Flickr. They have excellent textures.

Another very good texture and background maker at Flickr is Playing With Brushes:

I have a bunch of collage sheets and textures free to use in my Photostream at Flickr, in case there's anything there that you can use. I continue to add more as I have time. (Link in my sig.)

Edited to add two more of my favorites:
Pareeerica:

Cassandra204:

That should keep everybody busy for awhile! :

Karin,  The textures really are beautiful.  Do I need to set up a Flickr account to have access to them?

And thanks to all who posted freebie texture links.  I'm not sure which sin gluttony is, but I'm full!  Blending is next on my To Learn How To Do list.  But once I figure it out, I'll be very prepared, thanks to you all!  :

Thanks for the links, you girls!!  Textures are so fun - you can do so many wonderful things with them!!  I tortured a horse photo with all kinds of textures... oh, it was fun.

anyone got any fun experiments to share?

I just LOVE how AmyK uses textures in her layouts - have you seen her http://mischiefcircus.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=3552&title=lust&cat=500Lust layout??

I like your 'tortured' horses, Edeena

I use textures on practically all my layouts.  They are great for hiding a multitude of sins
