Default Altered Picnic Box

I wanted to make something fun and colorful using the images in the Family Reunion Freebie kit that you can get by going to the DS blog here and follow the instructions. It is chock full of 154 elements and 35 papers from the designers here at Deviant Scrap!

I went in search online and found some great ideas. I found alot of ideas for recipes, settings, and even outdoor games to play while at a picnic or reunion. I started a board on Pinterest in case you were curious. You can find it here. I came across a website that featured an old suitcase that was altered into an unusual picnic basket of sorts found here.
I decided I would try to make one out of an old chipboard box my hubby found me for a dollar (he is so good to me!). Of course as soon as I opened it, my cat Ringo had to jump in and check it out...

Thankfully, this box had a cardboard liner that I ripped out pretty easily. I cut it apart and then covered the pieces in my checked fabric. Before I placed them back in, I painted the entire box with some acrylic paint. I then glued in my fabric panels.

I then set off to make a workup of the collage I wanted on the front in my cs5.

Next, I made collage sheets of each image I used and printed them out.

After cutting them out, I started carefully gluing them down on the front using Mod Podge Matte.

After that was done, I began to finish my inside. I used the idea of ribbon the original post suggested but instead of stapling, I used velcro to attach my ribbon. I also made a little envelope to keep a few perfect picnic recipes in so they will be easy to find. It is also attached with velcro.

I filled it with some colorful plates, cups, old silverware, a tablecloth and napkins. You can add what ever you would like! Voila! I was finished.

Another great idea was to use a shoebox instead a box like mine or the suitcase...

Thanks for looking and I would love to see if you make anything like this!
